ATandT Labs Innovations: Watson Voice Recognition, BYOD Apps, Smarter TVs

AT&T Labs has a wealth of projects underway. On April 19, it brought together the innovators, researchers, engineers and other smart people behind a number of them, which AT&T Labs President and CTO Krish Prabhu described as having "great prospects" and being in "fairly late" stages of development. The applications and technologies ranged from location-based and speech-recognition-based APIs that developers can take and integrate into applications, to a software that can turn your smartphone into your hotel door key and another that can enable your car to tell you if youre about to leave home without your phone& or drive away from a restaurant without your credit card. One group from the AT&T Foundry was trying to make it easier for developers to create health-care based apps that are compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), while another group was creating signage you may someday encounter in a mall or airport, prompting you to answer a trivia question and maybe purchase a movie or song.
